The Ultimate Guide to Mastering FPV Drone Flying

The Ultimate Guide to Mastering FPV Drone Flying

In the beginning, it's important not to jump straight into flying without preparation.

Start with a simulator. Aim for at least 30 hours of practice. It's important to develop a feel for flying this type of drone, because an FPV drone is very different from a standard DJI drone. Since crashes are common in the beginning, it's better to do them in a simulator than in real life, as repair costs can add up quickly. A simulator will save you that expense.

I recommend Liftoff, a drone simulator that brings the thrill of FPV flying to the digital world. To use the simulator, you'll need a computer and a remote control. Once you are confident in your manoeuvres, have mastered common tricks, and feel safe no matter what you do while flying, I suggest you take part in Liftoff's competitions. These allow you to test your skills against others. Keep in mind that some contestants may be using a keyboard and mouse, so don't be discouraged if someone sets a faster time, even if it seems remarkably fast.

Once you feel very comfortable flying, you can buy a kit from our store that contains all the parts you need to build your own FPV drone.

Next, choose a flying site with soft ground, such as a grassy field, so that the drone is less likely to break if it crashes, which is normal and happens often.

For professional pilots, repairing a drone is a routine part of the hobby, just like regular flying practice in approved flying areas.
